Important Update: International Experience Canada (IEC) 2024 Application Pool Closing Soon

If you are considering applying for the International Experience Canada (IEC) program, please be advised that the application pool will close on October 21, 2023. This is a fantastic opportunity for youth from over 30 countries with bilateral Youth Mobility Agreements with Canada to explore and gain valuable work experience in this beautiful country.

Key Information About the IEC Program:

  • Application Timeline: The 2024 IEC pool was opened by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) last December, with an intake target of 90,000 applications.
  • Eligibility: The IEC program is designed for individuals aged 18 to 35 (or 18 to 30 for some countries). You can temporarily live and work in Canada for a specified duration, gaining invaluable experience while exploring our diverse culture.
  • How It Works: Similar to Canada’s Express Entry programs, interested candidates must meet the basic eligibility criteria and submit an application to the IEC profile pool. IRCC will then select profiles from this pool and invite candidates to apply for a work permit.
  • Streams Available: There are three streams available under the IEC program:
    1. International Co-op (Internship): Designed for eligible country citizens to intern with a Canadian company. Applicants must have their co-op placement arranged prior to applying.
    2. Young Professionals: This stream provides employer-specific work permits (also known as Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)-based permits) for those with a confirmed job offer from a single employer in Canada.
    3. Working Holiday: This stream offers Open Work Permits, allowing holders to work for most employers in Canada for up to two years, providing greater flexibility in their choice of location.

Next Steps After Receiving an Invitation:

Once you receive and accept an Invitation to Apply (ITA), you have 20 days to submit your work permit application. Be sure to check the deadline provided in your online IRCC account.

Preparing for Arrival in Canada:

In addition to your passport and Port of Entry Letter, you may be required to present:

  • Proof of sufficient funds (equivalent to $2,500) to support yourself for the first three months.
  • Proof of health insurance coverage.
  • A return ticket or evidence of funds sufficient to purchase one.

It’s important to note that your bank statements should be dated no more than one week prior to your departure for Canada, showing that you meet the financial requirements.
